This series of entangled circumstances around the comics is already
reason enough to observe the surrendering of the comic scene to
itself as a kind of cultural conspiracy, that came either from the
contempt towards the Ninth Art Form, or insufficient concern for
its existence. In that light, this edition (the first in a series
- we hope) is a step forward towards the comics' self-conscience
about its position in society. Paying attention primarily to quality,
"The Graphic Conspiracy" wants to draw attention
to the comic as an art form with both the autonomous aesthetic value
and the echo of what generates the surface layer of manipulation.
Conspiracy in comics turns out to be a net of signs which is hardly
identifiable as the calculated work of a single mind or an unwilling
accessory in the imposed patterns of behaviour. The anatomy of conspiracy
is here primarily an artistic act. Don't be suspicious of that.
