Motivation for this project
is a desire to create a unique record of activities
happening in and around Architectural Faculty, Belgrade
1993-1999, which have been of wider significance for
a cultural scene. Such a collective record does not
exist so far, and their underlying unity in a cultural
sense has been somewhat neglected. Among the relevant
projects one should mention Project X, Workshop 301,
Accelerator journal, Themes for the Great Cities, Armatura,
and others. The emphasis is on persons who participated
in some or all of those listed projects, and who are
by and large physically absent, working and studying
in various countries of the world. The output of this
project is envisaged as a booklet containing 22 postscards.
The booklet is perforated, so that the individual postcards
can be separated at will. Postcards show 22 different
people who in one or another way contributed to the
artistic events listed above in a creative manner. This
is a mini-selection which should give a good general
idea on the nature, range and scope of those projects
and profile of their participants. The persons chosen
are in a recognizable way associated with his/her representative
work. A series of stamps are printed and attached, too,
showing the outline of the author in a current physical
environment (notably the name of the country he/she
is currently living in). In addition, a hand-written
current address is given for each person on the back
of the postcard.
The hand-writing of each person is printed verbatim,
in order to support a documentary nature of the entire
Case Studies: A Book of Facts 1993-1999. It intends
to give a cross-section of the representative state
of mind in the both temporal and spatial location of
its production, by explicitly shown its roots in previous
artistic experiments mentioned above. The underlying
ambiguity between the meanings of the very word case,
associating it with both travelling (leaving) and any
individual phenomena, is used here to discuss a specific
social and cultural problem of great urgency, which
is an excellent example of Eliade's statement on manifestation
of the world in the form of language. Each personality
is a case, and each case has to be regarded in superposition
to other, more or less different, cases. Documentary
approach testifies instead of telling. In this sense,
the Case Studies: A Book of Facts 1993-1999 employs
the multilevel structure of language itself in order
to produce additional functional effect.

Motiv za nastanak ovog projekta je bila želja da se
napravi jedinstveno svedocanstvo dešavanja u i oko Arhitektonskog
fakulteta u Beogradu koja su bila od šireg znacaja za
kulturnu scenu uperiodu od 1993 do 1999. godine. Takvo
kolektivno svedočanstvo do sada nije postojalo, a njihovo
jedinstvo na kulturnom planu je donekle bilo zapostavljeno.
Medju bitnim projektima treba pomenuti: Projekat X, Radionicu
301, časopis Akcelerator, Teme za velike gradove, Armaturu
i druge. Naglasak je na ljudima koji su učestvovali
u nekim ili u svim nabrojanim projektima i od kojih
je većina fizički odsutna, pošto uče i rade u raznim
zemljama sveta. Zamišljeno je da rezultati ovog projekta
budu predstavljeni u brošuri koja će se sastojati od
22 razglednice. Brošura će biti perforirana tako da
ce biti moguće odvojiti ih po želji. Razglednice će
predstaviti dvadeset dvoje ljudi koji su, svako na svoj
način, kreativno doprineli održavanju pomenutrih umetničkih
dešavanja. Ovo je mini izbor koji treba da pruži dobru,
opštu predstavu o prirodi, dometima i obimu tih projekata
i ukratko opiše ljude koji su u njima učestvovali. Odabrani
pojedinci ce biti na prepoznatljiv nacin povezani sa
radovima kojima se predstavljaju. Bice otštampana serija
postanskih maraka koje ce biti lepljene na razglednice.
Na markama ce biti prikazane konture autora u okruženju
u kome trenutno živi (na vidnom mestu je i ime zemlje
u kojoj svako od njih živi). Pored toga, na poledini
razglednice ce biti rukom ispisana sadašnja adresa svakog
od ucesnika.
Rukopis svakog pojedinca će biti preštampan doslovno
da bi se naglasila dokumentarna priroda celokupnog projekta.
CASE: Popis dogadjanja u periodu od 1993. do 1999. godine
je napravljen sa namerom da pruži presek razmišljanja
koja su postojala u vreme i na mestu stvaranja ovog
projekta, time što će pokazati da se njegovi koreni
nalaze u gorepomenutim umetničkim eksperimentima. Dvosmislenost
značenja same reci "case" vezuje je i za putovanje (odlaženje)
i za bilo koji pojedinačni fenomem - slučaj. Ovde se
ona koristi da bi se raspravljalo o specifičnom društvenom
i kulturnom problemu od velike važnosti. Taj problem
je odličan primer onoga što je Elijade rekao o ispoljavanju
sveta u formi jezika. Svako je slučaj za sebe, a svaki
slučaj mora da se posmatra u odnosu na druge, manje
ili više različite slučajeve. Dokumentarni pristup podrazumeva
svedočenje umesto priče. U tom smislu u projektu CASE:
Popis dogadanja 1993 - 1999 se očitava višeslojna struktura
samog jezika. Time se želi postići dodatni funkcionalni
efekat.
